Swap help?
I bought i lt1 for a police package caprice.
Its sitting in the garage.
Now i need to know just about everything to do to get this in and running.
Im rebuilding the engine right now and want to put it in, in the next few weeks.
So i need some help from you guys!
I am also intrested in the painless harness for them so i dont have to graph mine together!
The engine came with almost everything. Wiring wise it has everything but it didnt come with the ac pump or starter! i think that all it didnt have.
So my questions are how long do you think it will take and what all needs to be done for this to be running right and how hard will the wiring be if i get a painless?
And what mounts and all to use and just the things that were in your way to do the swap. I have a 1998 vortec v6 in my single 1998 single cab.

first make sure you have the 5.7 and not the 4.3, the look alike, but the size is stamped on the block,
-
it should take 5 minutes to do the entire thing.
-
and dont fear the search button, thats why its there.

the painless harness is 6oo+ bucks and its simply a factory style harness with extra length between the motor/pcm and comes with a fuse box. now you can make your own, or send this guy your haness if you fear wiring. all info on that can be had for free on this guys site. .. what was it??? lt1swap.com

Thanks guys and i was just wondering how you would build up the engine if you had it. Im going with a painless harness and all that but how would you build the engine. I am planning on replacing everything, pistons cam all. I am going to go with an lt4 intake and have the heads matched to it, thats all i know of at this moment. You guys have been really great on everything and i have been searching every where about the swap and how to build the engine up. I want about 400 horses at the wheel, nothing wow but a good amount of power, gas mileage is no big deal for me.Thanks again for all the help cant wait for my little chevy to scream!Oh and exhaust wise im going borla dumped before the rear axle with electronic cut out!

I'd do a forged engine so you can push some nitrous into it. Buy forged pistons, rods and maybe even a stroker setup for 383 cubic inches. You have to remove the V6 engine mounts from the crossmember and install V8 mounts on it just the same as if you did the V8 conversion of an LS1 in the conversion topics. What year engine did you get? You're going to have to add a high pressure fuel pump pump most likely. Also, you will need electric fans for the radiator such as the fbody fans for a 28" or 2005+ Silverado fans for a 34" radiator.

I want to forge the engine but i dont know about the 383 option. I would have to take it and have it bored and stroked... AND i know people love nitrouse but im not a fan, i wont do it. Ill do force induction, but later on down the road. The engine is a 95, or 96 i cant tell, it had me worried for a few, because im pretty sure the vin number had been filed off! I went looking last night and couldnt find it, but i did find what look to be file marks. I purchased the engine from a cop, so i emailed him and he said its either a 95, or 96 couldnt remember. Other then that, thats all i know, it came with everything and i was excited! I want the lt4 intake, but im going to buy the one edlebrock came out with and have the cast iron heads matched to the intake. Then i cant decide what type of of pistons to use and which comp cam to pick. Im trying to find hooker full lenght headers to use, and then a holley throttle body 58mm. I know this is long but i just need to know what you guys think. I also am getting so stronger springs.
