I've had a lot of people asking how I got a mini spool for my truck. I'll start by saying this , I do not recommend doing this and I did not know my mini spool had been modified when I bought and installed it. The new mini spool I bought was for an 8.5 " 10 bolt rear end with 30 spline axles. The first thing I had to do is machine a counter bore for the c-clips . I assume this is because the mini spool was intended to be used with c-clip eleminators.
I bored the counter bore to .175 deep this is deep enough to seat the c-clips. I also had to grind a small flat on the clips to get them to slide in place.
Next I had to mill the blocks that slide in and lock the axles together. They start out at 1.5 inches wide and have to be milled equally on each side . They have to finish up at 1.285 thick which would equal .107 that needs to be milled off each side.
After I finished my modifying I installed it in the truck and and there was a touch of slack in it so I removed the mini spool and installed the shims behind it. The shims were the shims that came off the spider gears, now everything is a very tight fit
Sorry I didn't cover much of the actual install but now everyone knows the details on how I actually got it to work. Personally I'm gonna ditch this set up and either go full spool or 9".
