    2004 silverado steering knock

    Hi,
I have a 2004 Silverado 2500HD with a knock (clunck) when I turn or hit a bump. I changed the intermediate shaft with the Borgeson and still have the knock. I only noticed it when I changed the steering shock, I did all the shocks with Bilstein but the steering is Rancho.??? Any ideas, this is driving me crazy - truck only has 54,000 miles. Should I change the Rancho? The front is tight, stock rims with bigger BF Goodrich and I cranked the torsion bars a bit to clear, also added a pro comp leaf in rear.
    Thanks guys

My truck did that, and it was the steering shaft (I got a new one from gm). You did alot more extra to your truck though, so it could be anything?

I changed the shaft with a GM shaft and no good. I even went for the big dollars and got the Borgeson shaft and gave the GM shaft away!!! What about the steering shock,,, which is the best>? Could that be the problem?
    This is driving me crazy

If it's a new part, it probably won't make noise. Atleast not right away. Try to duplicate the conditions with a friend while you're under the truck.

There was never a recall on the intermediate shaft.

The bearing in the lower end of the column tube is a common cause for the same exact condition the I-shaft causes although the 05-07 is much more likely to fail.

I'd bet a small amount your truck shows a late 04 build date on the door jamb sticker as in 5-04 to 7-04.

i also have a "clunk" in my front drivers side of my 04 avalanche when i hit a bump but not turning unless i hit a bump while turning, i have wasted mass amounts of time with no luck fixing it. the truck has no play in the steering and drives straight, the "clunk" didnt start until i put a bunch of new parts on-max control shocks, energy bushings, enekie 20's, and some more random stuff. if i make any progress i will post it up.
procharger p1sc, nelson tune, 42# marine injectors, walbro 255, lt's, ory, 4" volant cat back, PerformaBuilt level 2 pro race trans, trans. cooler with e fan, 2500 stall, aem wideband, energy bushings, spohn perf. trailing and panhard rods, mb & gear alloy 22's ( ya 2 sets, im big ballin), ss brake lines, drilled & slotted rotors, bla bla bla bla bla bla bla,
and ya it will beat a hemi.

My search will continue and if i find the problem i will surely post it.. I will take the advice from gas guzzler and check the entire shaft and column. It is an 04 silverado with the 6.0 procharged with only 54K. This Damn clunk better give because I wont..
    Thanks guys
    P.S. PROCHARGER KICKS A@#
11# with racetronix 42# and a nice burn.
