Are you going to start with a stock tune and break it in that way or are you going to modify the shift stuff with HPT on the new trans? I think I'd start out with a stock transmission tune.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(RedHeartbeat @ May 13 2007, 10:30 PM) </div>Exactly what I plan to do. Stock line pressures, shift points... everything stock settings for trans properties. Besides, I've heard way too many bad things from increasing pressures. If the shift is firm enough with the HD2 kit, I won't even increase shift timing. I wanted the street/strip feel, so I put two of the three accumulator washers in. I also drilled the .093 holes where necessary. We'll see when I get back. Now that I think about it... everything for the trans is stock except the shift timing (currently set to 0.250, I think). Are you going to start with a stock tune and break it in that way or are you going to modify the shift stuff with HPT on the new trans? I came to the office early, and am about to head to the airport. I told my wife last night that I plan on working on my truck when I get back. We'll see on Wednesday. Anything that ya'll can think of that I missed? All comments/criticisms welcomed.

I saw you are putting 2 washers in. Its real easy to get a harsh shift 1-2.
Just my 2 cents. Look at this. http://forum.ls1truck.com/index.php?showtopic=8475
Hope this helps, unless you like trany fluid showers, taking the pan off under the truck. To get the shifts right.
Now ---With the stock like pressure- tune on my trany, all the TM removed, it shifts firm with normal [easy] driving. With acceleration it will chirp the tires going into 2nd.
Good luck!!

Well, metal... I guess I should've seen this before I put it back in this afternoon. God forbid I have to take it out again because of failure, but I plan to drive it around for a while (providing the trans doesn't break again). After that, I'll drop the pan to see what the fluid looks like. If it's too much for my liking, I tear into things afterwards.
With that said, yeah, the transmission's back in... but...
Overfilled the dang thing. Needless to say, I never pulled it out of the driveway. It was too damn hot around all that exhaust, and I was tired from meetings, flight back from Houston, and wrestling with the dang thing since dad's jack finally gave out. I'll finish it tomorrow afternoon.

Got under the truck this afternoon, splashed fluid all in my face, drained about 2 qts, bolted everything back nice and tight, checked the levels again, poured in almost another qt, and found it to be near perfect.
Now... drove the truck around the subdivision, and WOOOOOOOOOOOO, the 1-2shift chirps the tires! Guess I should've used only ONE washer from the HD2 kit. I would hate to see what THREE washers does. I'll relax until traffic dies out after 7pm. I'll take it out again later to really see how my work holds up.

Cool. I have no washers in mine and it chirps the tires religiously. Glad to hear of the success. Take it easy on it for a few miles while things are getting seated.

I'll have a video link posted when Streetfire finishes with optimization. I drove easy for every bit of 15 miles. I just couldn't resist. Tuning needs to be done... BIG TIME! Sluggish out of the hole. Bogs at WOT.
Streetfire is still optimizing... but, here's a link anyhow...

Well... here we go again!
Left wifey at work off Jefferson. Turned off Jefferson onto Lobdell b/c I wanted to swing by Richards Honda to pick up something. Headed to toward Government, and tried to get in the right lane. Dumbass kid being an ass decides to change lanes behind me to get in the right lane (as we were both in the left lane), and block me from getting over. I almost decided to force the BEAST over and run him off the road, but I mashed the pedal to pass him and the 4-Runner in front of him so I could get in the right lane. At the time, my speed was about 25mph. End result of mashing the pedal was a not-so-friendly 2-1 downshift, and BAMMM!!! The truck literally jumped, and first gear went bye-bye! So... now I'm pissed b/c of the type of jack-asses there are in the freakin' world, and I wish I could take my rage out on him, rips his nutz off (if he had some), and jam 'em down his throat!
After I finish my Cuervo-loaded margarita, I'll go review my ATSG manual to get an idea on how difficult of a job I'll have pulling the back end out of that transmission. While I'm at it, one of the two washers in the 1-2 accumulator will be coming out.
BTW... I did get these mounted this morning...

*UPDATE* Back at it this morning!
Lookin' rough... think I may replace 'em...
Forward Sprag Assembly (including retainer, inner race, etc)
Lookie what I see...
Since I had too many images for the previous post, I had to up my post count by "one", and add these....
No first gear engaging from a stop b/c of this? Recently working trans parts on left... spare parts on the right...
Aside from this, the rest of the trans looks normal. Again, I'm no pro, but am learning more than before. Holla!
Hey... site admin...
There's a limitation on pictures added to one post, but if I try to add two separate, consecutive posts, both posts are combined into one. Not to tell how the site should be run, but just thought I'd bring this to your attention.
Yours truly,

I think I listed about 20 links in one post to the site hosting my pics without issues. I guess it's only when the IMG file is listed that it had issue.
Broke a thrust bearing, huh? Did you have too much backlash in the input drum? Yeah, those clutches look smoked. I bet the steels are trashed, too. Did you inspect the clutches in the reverse drum to see how they are?
Did you check the forward sprag assembly to see if it's engaging? It's supposed to slip one direction and lock the other..
