    Lesson learned: REGRIND CAM

So about 2k miles ago I installed a regrind cam machined to GM HOT CAM specs. Then I start hearing valvetrain noise. Pulled the cam, here's what I found. Pics of regrind, (cell phone pics so not to clear)

Three of the lobes were damaged. Had to replace the cam, and went ahead and replaced the lifters. Good thing I had a LS1 cam I pulled out of my 04 Goat lying around. Next time around I wont try to save a few bucks.

Why do companies even regrind them. I would only do a new cam or a used one that I knew the seller really well.

I have contacted the person who sold me my regrind came that came apart in my motor. Here's his email to me:

    Dear kepecs11,

I am very sorry to hear about your mishap. I have built several engines years ago and also recently using these cams and they are still running great. If they are installed with the correct spring pressure, no coil bind and using the correct length push rods u shouldn't have any issues providing your valve train is in good codition and the cam is installed properly. In my ebay ad it states that the cam is guaranteed to be in good useable condition when you receive it. I would be willing to replace the cam for you if you send me a core and pay shipping. I would absorb the cam shop fee to help you out.

My delima is, I really dont want another cam from this guy after what happened to the first one. As to his coments on my valvetrain components, Im running LS6 yellow springs, Federated stock timing chain/gearset and COMP stock length pushrods. Should I push for money back or cut my losses? Would threatening to spread the word of his product quality (via this and other forums) be wrong?

I would try to get a partial refund or anything at all. I would not use a regrind period. I am just that way. Does he heat treat these regrinds? Really like a key copier. Bovine Excrement. Another reground cam is garbage period. I would write it off as lesson learned.

You should see one of the chunks missing out of G's cam. Maybe that's what makes it such a freak.
