Got my 1991 Chevy C1500 RCSB on the road and driving great. This truck is going through a transformation/restoration and this was the first step. Doing this brought back some dignity for my old truck. Everyone I meet is very impressed with the truck and the ones I just see driving down the road wanna race lol. I cant go anywhere without someone tryin to race lol. The intent of this swap was to make the truck more reliable and economical with a little fun added in. It has certainly surpassed my expectations and turned out to be a bit more radical in its power and speed. This thing moves!
If you want details you can either check out my overly long build thread here http://www.ls1truck.com/forums/lsx-t...its-prime.html or just ask and Ill be happy to tell you.
Anyway, here are some crappy pics and vids. Sorry about the quality. I didnt realize how bad the sound is on this camera. Probably would have come out better using my iPhone.
Here is the truck. It still needs a lot of work. Bodywork and paint need finished (its still just primered), Im lookin for new wheels and tires, I have a flip kit for the rear I havent put on yet and then its on for the interior.
Its dirty and still has a bunch of tools and junk in the bed.
Sun was coming up and lighting was not optimal.
Here's the '02 5.3 L59 DBW (w/ 6.0l engine cover)(thats 15 more hp ya know lol)
That air intake setup is not permanent but it works. A/C will come later. I'm planning to use the Powers A/C bracket kit to mount it high to the passenger side of the TB.
The wiring is not the cleanest. Some of it could have been routed differently but its no show vehicle. Also, the computer mounting is not permanent but it is working for the time being.
I used the Schoenfeld swap headers and coated them (not very well) with Eastwood black ceramic coating.
The TAC module mounted perfectly in place of the old cruise control.
Here is the vid. The sound quality is not that great. Ill get one with a different camera later.
Im currently just using the same old Flowmaster Ive had for years. Ill probably change it in the future.
Mods to the truck include:
Thunder Racing TR220 cam - .220i .220e .556i .556e 112 LSA
Z06 valve springs
Schoenfeld Longtube headers
9.5" RevMaxx 2800rpm stall converter
Nelson Tune
Ive been very happy with these mods. The cam gives a good sound a makes very good power. The headers are great and had no problem with clearance even with the 4l80e. The RevMaxx converter is very good for its price. It runs about half as much as any well known brand such and Yank or Circle-D and hasnt given me any problems at all so far. I guess durability over time will really tell how good it is. The truck hasnt and probably wont see any dyno time unless I go down to SA for a dyno tune at Nelson.
Big thanks to everyone here on the forums - wouldnt have been able to do it without those who had done it before me. Special thanks to RedHeartbeat, GasGuzzler, farmtruc, PitchBlackC3, and keniff. Also special thanks to my friend Ed for talkin me into it and helping me pull the old tbi, my friend Tim who did the wiring and my friend Josh for helping me with (very little) fabrication.
Any comments are appreciated. Thanks!
