Thought Id contribute a little to the forum. Its just a basic fuel pump swap which most of you could do in your sleep but for the noobs like me its nice to SEE what you have to do before you do it. I took some pics while I was changing a tbi pump for a Walbro 255 fuel pump.
Either pull your bed or drop your tank to gain access to the fuel pump. My friend said he would cut a hole in the bed floor and then weld it back once I was done.....I told him to stop talking. Most agree pulling the bed is easiest especially in my case if you have access to a lift. After you take out the 8 bolts that hold the bed to the frame, dont forget to disconnect you fuel filler tube from the bed.
Once the bed is off or lifted, you see this:
Spin the ring on top of the assembly to release it from the tank.
Be careful not to bend or put to much pressure on the arm with the float on it. That is part of your fuel level sending unit. If it gets bent or damaged your fuel gauge will read off or not at all.
The connector for the Walbro wont be exactly the same as the stock one so you must cut the old connector off and splice in the new one. I used heat shrink to seal the connection. Leave the wires for the sending unit alone. Install the new insulator onto the walbro pump as well as the bottom boot. Place pump into assembly and the install new filter sock onto the bottom of the pump. You have to push hard but it just snaps on.
Here it is finished. It is not necessary to remove the whole assembly from the truck. I did simply for picture purposes but also I wanted to get my sending unit tested. From here oyu just put it back together the same way it came out. making sure to reinstall all grounds and any other connections.
Hope this helps someone.
