    1993 Chevy OBS - 5.7L TBI to 5.3L Swap

    Hey everyone,

I am just about to put the finishing touches on my swap project..for now

It starts and drives, but I'm just waiting on a couple of minor things (new dipsticks, brake booster plug).

    Build is as follows:

    2004 Avalanche 5.3L pullout w/accessories

Made my own harness using the harness that came with the 5.3L and integrated it into my existing 5.7L harness (Thanks to buddies Mark and Twatson).

Custom motor mounts, fuel lines, tranny lines, LS1 electric fans, Home Depot air intake (don't laugh..it works )

Headers by S&P with O2 bung relocation on flanges...

BTW - If anyone orders headers from S&P for this conversion, the O2 bung on the passenger side will have to be relocated on the header about 90 degrees downward to clear the firewall)

4L60E from an 03' Tahoe (not particular about years...just had one handy)

    Drive by wire throttle body

Umm...thats about it...for now ;-)...as soon as I get to driving this (should be a couple of days...waiting on stupid dipsticks!), my LS1 from my 02' Trans Am is going in here! Then I'll throw on some more pics...

These were taken with my phone and are crappy, but I'll get some better ones...when it is cleaned up too!

Anywho, thanks to a bunch of people on here whom I bugged a lot and I'll keep everyone posted as things go along!

Just a pic of them both for fun...

thats awesome man, im getting ready to get into my swap too.

since we have very similar trucks, i was wondering how hard you would say the wiring was? after looking over the schematics for my truck (havent bought any for the engine ill be using yet) i feel pretty confident that I can do it. about how much time would you say the whole thing took you?

    thanks

Nice lineup! I'm guessing the T/A is getting a transplant also?

As for the wiring, it is not that complicated once you go through it once. My biggest thing was knowing what to fuse and what to relay. I have a friend who is an electrical engineer walk me through most of the harness. The total time I spent was probably about 8 hours. It could be a lot shorter, but I extended a lot of wires out of the factory 5.3 harness to run inside the cab to my gages and other misc stuff. Converting the 1993's harness involved just cutting a bunch of unneeded stuff out and splicing a couple of wires to the 5.3L harness. You don't even have to cut all of the wires out if you don't want to, I was just trying to make it look cleaner.

And yes the TA is getting a transplant in the bottom of my sig is some info on the 408 that is going in it. I have an F1R procharger to stuff some air down it right now, but I'm switching to a turbo now. It ought to be close to 1000 at the tires...giggidy giggidy

Anywho, thanks for the comments and I'll keep the new pics coming.

awesome man, im feeling pretty good about it now. is it a pretty straight forward nature of running the necessary wires from the new ECM into the cab for the tach/speedo/temp/etc on the gauges? also, do you have the A/C working?

I didn't do the AC just yet. I left all of the provisions to get it working, but I deleted the compressor on the 5.3. When I get the car LS1 in, i'm going to order the Sanden setup from Street and Performance and hook up the AC. That seemed like the easiest route for me. I know that some people are using the truck AC stuff but had to notch a bunch of the frame and motor mounts to get it all to fit and since I was going to the car motor soon, I just decided to save myself some metal splinters and tuff the heat for a bit. I'm sure my girlfriend will help me get motivated to put the AC on as soon as she starts sweating lol..

Good luck with the project though man and let me know if I can help you out any.

    Thanks,

    Cody B.
