I know everyone that has ever had to delt with whipples on chevy trucks HATES the electronics .. alot of people dont even run them when they get a new kit... so whats it take to remove the whipple electronic system if its already installed on a truck so it can be tuned with HPTuners?? a few people have told me they were able to gain 50-70hp going to a custom tune with 36+lb injectors and ditching the whipple stuff... Yes i have talked with Allen on the phone but he has been slammed !! I would like to see something on paper so i dont get lost following a 10min phone call .... KC

damn newbie !! wrong room ! someone please move this for me... KC

50 to 70 HP wow. How much of a gain should you get if you already have the custom tune and you just remove the whipple electronics and upgrade injecters? Retuned of course.

You have what I am asking about... at some point you had to disconnect the whipple controler so it was no longer in control of your system.. install the bigger injectors and the custom tune... my question is what exactly is done to disable the controler ? also I have the yellow light on the dash when the system gets lean .. pretty nice to have any way i can keep it?

I think these are questions Nelson Perf can answer. I would like to find out for sure. I do like my little yellow light. But I can live without it.

so i take it when u had nelson tune yours all u did was remove and block off the front whipple injectors and remove the harness for the injectors? ... from what i can tell the whipple controler messes with the IAT and total timing alot !!... at cruise speeds i see 40+ degrees !! and 17 under boost and i know it has a vacume operated vlave and also an electronic accuatorthat controls the whipple under cruise conditions and sitting still... All i know is my truck feels like a 10 speed bike I can feel it changing power levels in every gear being lean... due to knock retard... also the truck has pretty decent driveabilty 0-30% everything between 30 and 100% the truck runs like hell...like it lacks power because it does not downshift around 50mph range... so the truck falls on its face since it does not downshift and goes lean under load ... what a POS .. please someone post up something !! i called Allen today and he broke his arm !! so i dunno how thats going to effect his emails or getting on the board and chatting on here .. My Crap is still hooked up. He did tune my truck and what a differance. If he says Horsepower can be gained by getting rid of the whipple crap. I am game. I know what you mean about it falling on its face. The thing that scares me is that I have broken everything except the engine. Tranny to rearend. The rear blew and well it was ugly. My driveshaft was even warped to hell and back. My truck is patiently waiting for a driveshaft right now.
One thing I am curious about is 60lb injecters. I will be building/buying a stroked motor once this one blows. I need it to hang on till next year. I would love to be able to use 60lb injectors so that I can use them on the stroked motor and in the mean time use them on the 5.3. I plan to go all out and get a World Warhawk heads and all and slap the whipple on top of it with the smallest pulley possible and even custom fab an intercooler for it.

So here is the low down Per whipple man ... the under hood electronics only control a few things.. and after installed the truck is loaded with a diablo sport tune... the box does read some vitals i am sure.. but the main thing it controls are the 2 boost injectors, the bypass solonoid and the yellow blinky light on the dash ... thats about it !! so thats pretty damn good news to me !! .... Anyone hear from Allen yet?? and I was told i can go 3.50 on the top pulley I have a 4.374 on there now... good for 7more psi they say... KC

I have been working on one of the Whippled trucks for a while now in different stages. Long story short, we are running a custom OS SD tune with 2 Bar map, 42lb injectors, drive by wire intake conversion, 9lbs of boost, Whipple electronics disabled and piggy back injectors removed. The boost bypass is the only thing that is still operational as a last ditch safety feature.

The truck is a stock 5.3 with only a Lunati camshaft. Borla exhaust, Raptor 4l60e w/10" 2600 stall converter.

Below is a link to some pictures of the setup. I'll post the latest dyno graph with the addition of a 60hp wet nitrous system to cool the intake. The graph on the web page is pretty old and not what the truck is capable now. The web page graph is from the first SD tune and 6lbs of boost if I remeber correclty.

I'm new to this board and I thought I might be able to help with this thread. Thanks,
