truck is an 04 silverado and it was the work truck deal. no cd or cassette. so i purchased an 05 tahoe stock head unit that had a cd and cassette. Now that i plugged it in it shows locked on the screen. How can i unlock it or get around it? thanks and ill be using the search button but figure i could get a faster answer by making a thread. thanks guys.

The dealer has to program your VIN into the unit.

i got away with unplugging the battery for awhile then it worked only problem is if you disconnect the battery again or if it goes dead thats pretty much it, it goes back to being locked, so you might as well go spend the 80 bucks at the dealership.

It's not that simple on the radios in question. However, once the vin is programmed to it you won't have anymore trouble unless you switch it to another truck.
