The truck (2002) came from the dealer with undercoating. Some of the undercoating has gotten scratched off or came off when contacted with a solvent of one sort or another. Oe undercoating will wipe off with most any solvent like thinner etc.... makes a big mess but it does wipe off.

Since I'm going to the trouble to add new SS exhaust and a fuel cell w/braided hose fuel lines I'd like the underside to look as good as the top side. Can I use a brush-on black paint like Rustoleum or Eastwoods Rubberized undercarraige paints over the oe undercoating.

Have you thought about using a ruberized undercoating in a spray can? I know 3M makes a nice one, but it would prob make a mess!

Have you thought of just painting it with some POR 15?

Sure I thought about it but that's what I'm asking. Can I apply the paint/POR15 over the oe undercoating? or does the undercoating have to come off first.

Thought about a spray but spray is not very controllable and requires a lot of masking.

get everything off that you can. Take it down and have it soda blasted if you have to and then paint it. Old undercoating is eventually going to fall off, its just a matter of time. The important thing is to get the parafin off of the frame before painting. Steam cleaning will do it.

Speaking of steam cleaning and not trying to hijack the thread....

How would one go about steam cleaning the undercarriage? Is there another way that would work better? Can you steam clean without melting/stripping the undercoating off? Do you have to do anything before or after?

With the fluid woes I've had in the past couple weeks it is a mess under there and I hate it.

Por-15 makes a metal prep that is applied first before the actual POR-15, Then, you must paint over the POR-15 cuz the Sun light will make it Peel! I always paint black rustoleum over the por-15.
