Has anyone with a 99 or newer truck converted to bigger speakers in the door? Or found stock size speakers that are better than stock and easy to install? I Don't really want to "cut" the door up, but i want better than factory speakers. Just trying to find out what you guys have gone with! Pictures would be cool too! Thanks!

My buddy that does audio told me that its hard to get a good sounding speaker out of the doors even with an amp. Since there isnt any encloser behind it its still going to have that paper sound to it at certain levels. It sucks! Since we have built in tweets in our doors try and get you like a mini sub to throw in there. Something that handle the bass part good. No matter what you gotta have the amp thats for sure!! Like me im not tryin to get all the thumb out of it just want that good clear sound. I like the way the BOSE sounds in our yukon, gonna try and swap it out... sssshhhhh LOL By the way i have Infinity's in mine, sounds alright with no amp.

What size speakers are in it now? I think someone makes a replacement 6 1/2" that is like 6 3/4". I don't think they get any bigger than that for mids, unless your thinkin about goin with 6x9's.

I replaced all my stock speakers with Boston 6 1/2" in the front and the Boston 4x6 plates for the back, it sounds great and the install was not difficult, did it all myself and made a custom 10" downfiring box that has a JL 10 WO in it and its not real boomy just brings up the bass enough to take it off the speakers and it sounds great, i would also reccomend an aftermarket head unit for ease of intal w/ the sub and control over it plus it makes the speakes sound a lot better than the stock unit.

I have JBLs pros 6.5 seperates in the door and they sound great, but you would probably need an amp and a different head unit to get the full sound out of the speakers. The factory speakers have a full range sound in them that are richer with the stock radio. I have tried aftermarket speakers with a stock head unit and they just don't have the sound as the stock speakers do? This is just my opinion.

    Thanks,

Thanks for the input guys. I don't have the money for an aftermarket deck yet but my 6.5 door speakers are going out. I think i might just put stockers back in it. They sound really good with the stock radio and i don't want to put aftermarkets in it if they won't sound as good until i replace the deck as well. Hell they are only $27 from GM each (with my discount).

Jamest is right the aftermarket speaker will not sound as full as the stockers, especailly with the stock head unit, most aftermarket speakers are made to be accompanied by a sub so they focus more on high range, when i turn my sub off every now and then, even with the aftermarket head unit, they dont sound as full and the stock ones so id stick with the stockers

I've always wondered about that. I've always noticed that my aftermarket speakers just don't seem to have enough bass or something when run by themselves without a sub, and when I try crank em up without crossing them over they sound like ass. I always seem to have to cross them over higher than they are originally from the factory to get them to sound good no matter what brand I use.
