I know the 05's is where you need 17+ beacuase of the change in the brake system. That was the year GM change to rear drums.
The 04's were still all discs and were also equipped with 16's so I belive those wheels should fit on your 04.

I dont know anything about Gm going back to drums on newer trucks but I do know I have an 04 and i had 16's from the factory. FYI the will fit homie
