    torsion bar drop

I want to lower my truck with the torsion bars but I've never messed with them before. I've heard of people raising their truck that way but don't know anybody that has dropped one. What I need to know is how far, what to watch out for, and the best way to go about doing it. Oh and is it going to affect the ride any.

    I got a 2000 GMC 4x4 5.3 with stock wheels.

Get a set of 3/4 or 1 ton torsion keys, that will give you almost 2" in drop. That is what I run.

Side note, your 1/2 ton keys on a 3/4 or 1 ton give almost 2" of lift.
    Gone, but not forgotten!

Like any lowering setup, the ride is affected. Mine rides right on the bump stops, so it is stiff there.

Go to a site like gmfullsize, those guys are the ones into those trucks.

I just swapped mine with a guy looking to raise his.

Do I need special tools to get these keys out and to change them? Does anyone have a link to a site that show how to do it? Thanks guys.

I cranked up my torsion bars about 1.5" but when i was doing it my friend lowered it first by accident (hes not the smartest) just turning the torsion bars counter clock wise, you could prob lower it 1 - 2 in.
