Thread: 73-87 tailgate

    is there a difference between any of the 73-87 tailgates? i have noticed that some have an indention and some dont. I want the tailgate that doesnt have the indention and i want to relocate the handle. can anyone tell me if there are differences or what years are the better years? this is the year that i want..
    Project: 91' short wide:
    GMC front end update with billet grille and all clears, 17x8 & 17x11 Torq Thrust II's
    5/7 drop, almost totally shaved and 93 Deville tails
    Future Plans: 2001 LQ4 6.0L & a T-56

    What I do is look on Autotrader.com or Ebay.com for those year model vehicles for sale to see what is on them.

    BTW, they make a skin you weld over your existing gate to smooth it out.

    ALL 73-87 tailgates have the indentation. The actual Silverados of the bunch used an aluminum filler to give it a smoother appearance. What you are showing in that pic is a custom job.
