Wow.

That's all I have to say. Guys, please, go to Autozone, purchase the Bosch cabin filter for $14.99 and replace it!!! My truck is now 7 years old and I am not positive if my filter has EVER been changed. I thought it wouldn't be that bad, but I was sadly mistaken.

I thought since my truck sits in the garage 4-5 days of the week, hasn't seen rain since '03, and is extremely well maintained, the filter wouldn't be that bad. When I pulled it out---a robin's nest, a used mattress, a rusted out water heater fell to my floorboard. Ok, maybe it wasn't all that--but I did have to get the shop vac out and vacuum up the floor mat from the remnants of the filter removal.

Serioulsy, your cabin will smell much better once you replace it. Dooooooo it!

I am told our trucks don't have one; the climate control was redesigned for '03 and the filter dropped. This only applies to Silverados through '02.

If you look under the passenger side dash, there is a plastic pan with 4-5 screws holding it up. Remove that and you should see the air box for the heater/AC. There will be a small access panel about halfway between the door and center console with one screw holding it on. The back of the panel has a tab to hold it up. Remove the screw and drop the panel. You should see the bottom of the first filter. NOTE...there are two filters in there, one on top of the other. Pull the first and hopefully the second will drop behind it. If not you may have to get a long something and fish it out. Repeat backwards to close it up. This is thru "02.

Between the dog, the hunting lease and the general blowing $hit around town, I replace mine every year. You can get the "plain jane" filters or the carbon panel filters if you have a lot of environmentals.

    Yes, my bad...only thru '02.

And it is just as described above. The first one pulled out easily, but I used a wire coat hangar to get to the second one and yanked it out...but watch out for falling objects that didn't get trapped by the filter! Or look in your owner's manual under Passenger Side Cabin Filter in the Index. It has a pic showing what to do...

I wonder if you can put one of those air fresheners onto the actual filter. When my dad would change the air filters in the house, he would clip on this cinnamon smelling freshener and the whole house would smell like it for ever.

Actually my dad was a damn good cook. He made some amazing meals. But yeah the cinnamon thing did make me mad, because of how delicious it smelled. It smelled more like cinnamon toast than anything.
